Butler County Commissioners voted unanimously yesterday to set aside a corner of Diamond Park for a second World War II monument, all in the interests of peace between warring factions of veterans.
The exact dimension of the land is yet to be calculated, said Commissioners Chairman Dale Pinkerton, but the site for the new monument to the Merchant Marine will be in the grassy area to the left of the monument that has been a lightning rod in a nine-year argument over the proper place to list the mariners.

Canal Winchester resident Dan Sommer has been named the Defense Supply Center Columbus Associate of the Month.
Sommer supervises a team in the maritime supplier operations directorate that supports the Navy's nuclear reactor program.

Though traditional mariners have inconsistent opinion about women, Indian Maritime University (IMU) reports that there is a major increase in the number of women candidates who are applying for maritime-related courses for the past two years.
"Though women have seen limited role in the maritime industry so far, of late more women are being recruited for maritime jobs. Also, the government is encouraging women candidates to pursue maritime studies by providing Rs 75,000 fee concession a year," said Dr P.
